A certain friend of mine recently said to me "You can't expect to shoot a big buck every year". While it's true that I might not shoot a big buck every year, I fully expect that I will. That expectation is what gets me up at 4:30 am and keeps me in my stand even when I am freezing cold or soaking wet.
Shooting a nice buck isn't easy, but it's not rocket science either. All you need are 3 things: 1) An area to hunt that contains some mature bucks 2) An understanding of where those bucks are going to be (especially when they are pressured) and 3) Proper preparation. Or you could just go spend a bunch of money and go on some guided hunt. Personally, I would much rather shoot a 125 inch buck on public land than shoot a 170 inch buck on some ranch in Texas.
2010 Goal
I have shot some decent bucks with a rifle, but my goal this year is to shoot a Pope & Young Whitetail with my bow.
Bear Hunting
Bear hunting begins soon. Both my brother and myself, as well as my cousin Rob and his son, drew tags this year. I have already been out scouting several times and have a bunch of spots located.
